The Story

Origin Point is the reincarnation of our original gaming desktop tower. With portability no longer a concern, we decided we wanted a desktop tower again, so after selling Prominitheus, we took a shotgun trip to Micro Center and bought all of the parts to build her then and there.

Initially, Origin Point was spec'd out with an i9-12900K and a 7800 XT. However, after some price assessment, and knowing our use case, we spent a little more and switched to the 7800X3D and a refurbished RTX 3080 Ti. The 7800X3D for VR performance, and the 3080 Ti for NVENC and better performance at 4K.

In June of 2025, we were gifted an RTX 5070 Ti from a friend, replacing the 3080 Ti. An undervolt was also applied to the CPU, as well as a GPU overclock (+350 core, +2000 memory).

Despite the fact that Prometheus mk. I continues to live on via the WD_BLACK SN850X and WD Red drives, Origin Point was renamed from Prometheus mk. II in November 2024.
